he Hidden Staircase Mystery Books Company was founded in 1989 as a business unit of The -L Company. New, used, and out-of-print mystery books were sold by mail order catalog from our location in suburban Boston. When The -L Company relocated to San Diego in 1995, the Hidden Staircase Mystery Books opened the current website for the sale of mystery books and discontinued catalog sales.

s the scope of our operations expanded over the subsequent years, it became clear that a new website organization would be required to handle the growth. In 2005, mystery book sales was moved to First Edition Mysteries, a new division of the Hidden Staircase Mystery Books devoted exclusively to selling high quality and collectible mystery books. Mystery book reviews are now provided on another division website, Mysterious Reviews. Finally, Mystery Nexus was created to manage all other information related to mystery books that could not be included on this website.

We also produce the Mystery Books weblog that is updated several times each week with mystery book news, reviews, press releases, and updates to our own websites.
